Indian Army and J&K Police Avert Major Terror Attack; 14.5 kg IED Neutralized in Shopian
SHOPIAN, April 08, 2026 — In a major success for the security forces, Indian Army, in a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, averted a potentially devastating terror incident by recovering and neutralizing a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Zainapora area of Shopian district.
The explosive, weighing approximately 14.5 kg and packed with high-grade explosives, was discovered near Chitragam during a specialized search operation dubbed “Op Chitragam.”
Equipped with a remote-controlled trigger mechanism, the device posed a significant threat to life and property before it was surgically handled by technical experts.
Following standard safety protocols, the bomb disposal squad destroyed the IED in a controlled manner, ensuring no collateral damage to the surrounding environment.
The Chinar Corps reaffirmed its resolute commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region, emphasizing that the Indian Army continues to work tirelessly to ensure a terror-free Kashmir.
