Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Prorogues Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly

JAMMU, April 08, 2026— In a formal constitutional move, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has officially prorogued the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory, signaling the conclusion of the current session.

According to a bulletin released by the Assembly Secretariat, the order was signed on April 7, 2026, marking the procedural end to the legislative proceedings.

The Lieutenant Governor exercised this authority under the provisions of Section 18(2)(a) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, which empowers the head of the Union Territory to discontinue a session without dissolving the house.

This administrative action follows the completion of the scheduled business of the assembly, effectively placing the legislative body in recess until the next session is summoned.
