Rajouri Traffic Crackdown: Over 20 E-Autos Seized for Route Violations and Safety Breaches
Rajouri, April 08, 2026 — In a major effort to streamline urban mobility and bolster passenger safety, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Rajouri, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, executed a large-scale joint enforcement drive near the District Police Lines.
Led by Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Rajesh Gupta and local police leadership, the operation targeted rampant traffic violations, resulting in the seizure and challaning of more than 20 e-autos.
The crackdown focused on operators plying without valid documentation, driving without licenses, and venturing outside their authorized service routes. Notably, several vehicles arriving from neighboring tehsils to operate unlawfully within Rajouri town were among those impounded by the joint teams.
Beyond documentation checks, officials targeted e-autos that had been illegally modified with extra seating and unauthorized sound systems, citing these as significant hazards to passenger safety and contributors to noise pollution.
ARTO Rajesh Gupta informed the media that the drive was prompted by a surge in public complaints regarding the erratic and unauthorized operation of e-autos. He warned that this enforcement action is not an isolated event but the beginning of a sustained campaign to ensure strict adherence to the Motor Vehicles Act.
Authorities have issued a stern advisory to all transport operators to comply with their permitted regulations, emphasizing that any further deviations will be met with rigorous legal consequences to ensure orderly traffic flow in the district.
