Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 Traffic Update: Highway Blocked at Banihal Amid Heavy Rainfall

SRINAGAR/JAMMU, April 8, 2026— The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains closed to all vehicular traffic as of 10:00 AM today following significant blockages at Shalgarhi and Banihal.

Despite ongoing road clearance operations, authorities have confirmed that the restoration process will take time due to continuous rainfall along the highway which has increased the difficulty of removing debris.

The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police have issued a formal advisory urging the public to avoid any travel on NH-44 until the route is fully cleared and deemed safe for transit.

Commuters are further cautioned against relying on unverified rumors and are encouraged to verify the current road status through the official @Traffic_hqrs handle on X, the department’s Facebook page, or by contacting the Traffic Control Units in Jammu at 0191-2459048, Srinagar at 0194-2450022, and Ramban at 9419993745.
