Baramulla Drug Bust: Two Peddlers Arrested with Brown Sugar in Old Town
BARAMULLA, April 07, 2026 — As part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Baramulla Police successfully apprehended two drug peddlers during an area domination patrol in the Jal Sahib vicinity of Old Town.
Late Monday night, at approximately 10:05 PM, a police party intercepted two individuals traveling toward Bag-e-Salam who attempted to flee upon spotting the authorities. The suspects, identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat and Nisar Ahmad War, both residents of Khwaja Sahib, Old Town Baramulla, were tactfully chased down and detained.
During a subsequent search, officers recovered 9 grams of brown sugar from War and 8 grams from Bhat; the seized substances were tested on-site and confirmed to be illicit narcotics.
Following the recovery, the Baramulla Police registered FIR No. 36/2026 under Sections 8, 21, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the local police station, and a formal investigation has been launched to trace the wider network associated with the contraband.
