J&K ACB Traps Thanamandi Head Constable for Accepting ₹10,000 Bribe to Release Seized Vehicle
RAJOURI, April 04, 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested Head Constable Mohd Alyas, posted at Police Station Thanamandi, for demanding and accepting an illegal gratification of ₹10,000.
The enforcement action followed a formal complaint lodged at the ACB Police Station Rajouri, leading to the registration of FIR No. 05/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to the investigation, the complainant’s vehicle had been seized by the officer following a road accident in March. Despite the legal nature of the case, the Head Constable allegedly pressured the owner for a bribe of ₹20,000 to release the vehicle, eventually negotiating the amount down after already extracting an initial payment of ₹5,000.
Acting on the written complaint regarding persistent harassment and threats, a specialized ACB team laid a meticulous trap and caught Mohd Alyas red-handed while he was accepting the remaining ₹10,000 at the Thanamandi Police Station.
The accused was arrested on the spot, and subsequent searches were carried out at his residential premises in Rajouri to gather further evidence.
The ACB has reiterated its commitment to zero tolerance against corruption within public offices, confirming that a detailed investigation is currently underway to uncover any further administrative lapses related to the case.
