Major Administrative Overhaul in J&K: New Deputy Commissioners Appointed for Udhampur, Baramulla, and Key Districts
JAMMU, Feb 20, 2026: In an extensive administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the immediate transfer and posting of 22 senior officers.
Leading the changes, Ashwani Kumar is appointed as Financial Commissioner, Power Development Department, with additional charge of Mining, while Dr. Ashish Chandra Verma takes over the Tourism Department with additional charge of Agriculture Production. Shailendra Kumar has been moved to the Finance Department as Financial Commissioner, and M. Raju is posted as Commissioner/Secretary for the Health & Medical Education Department.
R Alice Vaz joins the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department with additional charge of Information, while Yasha Mudgal transitions to the Cooperatives Department. Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary is the new Commissioner/Secretary for Youth Services and Sports, while Dr. Piyush Singla adds the charge of Public Grievances to his existing duties in Information Technology.
Babila Rakwal moves to Science and Technology, and Anjali Sehrawat has been appointed as Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission.The reorganization further sees Nidhi Malik appointed as Inspector General of Registration, J&K, while Owais Ahmed transitions to Director, Skill Development, J&K, while retaining his role in Planning and Monitoring. Dr. Sagar D Dattatray takes over as Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Kashmir.
In critical district leadership changes, Minga Sherpa is the new Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur, and Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan takes charge as Deputy Commissioner of Budgam. Kumar Abhishek is posted as Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, while Akriti Sagar becomes the Managing Director of the National Health Mission, J&K.
Dr. Bilal Mohiud Din Bhat moves to serve as Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, and Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid assumes the role of Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla. Finally, Harvinder Singh is appointed as Director, Employment, J&K, Shahzad Alam becomes Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, and Krishan Lal is posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Doda.
