Assam Rifles and Manipur Police Neutralize Insurgent Threats in Major Week-Long Operation

IMPHAL, Feb 16, 2026 — In a significant blow to insurgent activities in Northeast India, the Assam Rifles, in a seamless joint effort with the Manipur Police Commandos, executed a series of high-impact counter-insurgency operations across Manipur.

Spanning from February 7 to February 14, 2026, the coordinated crackdown led to the apprehension of several active cadres and the seizure of a massive stockpile of weapons and “war-like stores,” effectively destabilizing illegal armed networks in the region.

Driven by precise, actionable intelligence, security forces saturated key districts including Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, and Tengnoupal. The operations were not limited to the interior; vigilant troops successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts along the Indo-Myanmar border, taking suspects into custody without resistance.

The scale of the recovery highlights the severity of the threat, with the seized cache featuring an AK-47 rifle, various pistols and rifles, improvised mortars, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), hand grenades, and advanced communication equipment.

Following standard operating procedures, all apprehended insurgents and confiscated materials were transferred to local police stations for formal investigation and legal processing. Specialist teams were deployed to neutralize all recovered explosives, ensuring public safety.

This week of intensive operations underscores the unwavering commitment of the Assam Rifles and state forces to maintaining peace and preventing the escalation of violence within Manipur.
