KPDCL Achieves Full Power Restoration Across Kashmir Following Severe Snowfall and Winds
Srinagar | January 25, 2026 — The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (KPDCL) has successfully restored the electricity supply network across the Kashmir Valley after a severe weather spell involving heavy snowfall and gusty winds caused significant infrastructure damage.
The adverse conditions had led to widespread disruptions, with falling rooftops and debris damaging High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) networks, distribution transformers, and sub-transmission lines.
Through coordinated, round-the-clock field operations, KPDCL has managed to fully charge all 135 of its 33 kV feeders and 333 receiving stations, bringing a sense of normalcy back to the region.Current data indicates that approximately 95 percent of the 11 kV distribution network—specifically 1,240 out of 1,307 feeders—is now energized.
While permanent stabilization of severely damaged sections is ongoing, temporary fixes have ensured that the majority of the population is reconnected, with the State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) recording a peak load exceeding 1,600 MW.
Restoration teams are currently focused on the final few feeders located in the challenging, high-altitude terrains of Keran, Machil, and Tangdar, which are expected to be charged shortly. The restoration drive was executed under the direct supervision of the Financial Commissioner (Power Development Department) and monitored by the Managing Director and Chief Engineer.
In anticipation of fresh meteorological forecasts predicting another spell of snow, KPDCL has already mobilized rejuvenated manpower and machinery to ensure a swift response to any further outages. The corporation remains on high alert, with robust monitoring systems and dedicated field teams prepared to maintain an uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming winter front.
