Vaishno Devi Yatra Suspended: Season’s First Snowfall Blankets Bhawan and Bhairon Temple

Katra, January 23, 2026: In a stunning turn of weather, the holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi witnessed its first snowfall of the season today, transforming the Trikuta Hills into a winter wonderland.

Devotees present at the site were blessed with a breathtaking spectacle as fresh snow gently adorned the Vaishno Devi Bhawan and the Bhairon Temple, creating an atmosphere filled with divine bliss and serenity.

However, while the snowfall brought joy to many, the resulting weather conditions have necessitated a temporary halt to the pilgrimage.Due to the intensification of heavy rainfall in the base camp of Katra and significant snow accumulation at the higher reaches of the Bhawan, authorities have officially suspended the Vaishno Devi Yatra for the safety of the pilgrims.

The track has become slippery and visibility has dropped, prompting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) to put operations on hold until the weather stabilizes. Pilgrims currently at the base camp are advised to stay indoors and wait for official clearance before attempting to proceed with their journey.
