LEH, JAN 18: The Meteorological Centre Leh has issued a significant weather update for Ladakh, forecasting a transition from currently cold and cloudy conditions to a period of moderate to heavy snowfall.
While today remains cold and overcast across most regions, a gradual shift is expected starting January 19 with light snow over peaks. On January 20, there is a 75% chance of scattered light to moderate snowfall, accumulating approximately 4 to 5 inches.
The most intense weather is predicted between January 23 and 25, when a major system is expected to bring moderate snowfall to most places in Ladakh, with heavy snowfall specifically warned for many areas in Kargil and Zanskar.
Due to this impending winter surge, authorities have issued a high-priority advisory regarding travel and transport. There is a high risk of closure for the Zojila Pass between January 20 and 26, which could significantly disrupt surface connectivity.
Additionally, air travel may be affected on January 23 and 24 due to the heavy snow forecast. Residents and travelers are strongly advised to stay updated with official road and weather statuses and to plan their movements accordingly to ensure safety during this week of extreme conditions.
