Mukesh Singh Takes Charge as Director General of Police Ladakh
Leh | January 16, 2026 — In a significant top-level administrative transition, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Mukesh Singh officially assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) for Ladakh on Friday.
A seasoned officer from the 1996 IPS batch, Singh brings a wealth of experience to the Union Territory’s police leadership. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the security apparatus and policing infrastructure in the geographically vital region of Ladakh.
DGP Mukesh Singh is widely recognized for his distinguished career in the Jammu and Kashmir , where he served as one of the longest-tenured ADGP and IGP of the Jammu Zone.
His leadership in the Jammu region was marked by critical counter-terrorism efforts and a focus on maintaining communal harmony.
Beyond state policing, Singh has an impressive track record in central and specialized agencies, having held prestigious positions such as Additional Director General (ADG) and Inspector General (IG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
In addition to his paramilitary and zone-level leadership, Singh’s professional portfolio includes high-stakes roles as the IG Crime J&K and IG of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
His foundational experience also includes serving as a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in several sensitive districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including the winter capital, Jammu.
With this new assignment, Singh is expected to leverage his extensive background in both border security and investigative policing to oversee the security landscape of Ladakh.
