Ladakh Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra Visits Lamayuru Monastery to Address Infrastructure Needs
LEH, January 10, 2026: Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra conducted an official visit to the historic Lamayuru Monastery today, engaging with monks, local residents, and community representatives at one of Ladakh’s most significant cultural landmarks.
During the interaction, villagers and monastery officials presented a detailed list of developmental requirements aimed at preserving the site and improving local facilities. Key requests included financial assistance for extending the Mask Dance (Cham) Ground, the installation of protective roofing for monastery structures to withstand harsh weather, and the construction of a new bridge and parking facilities to manage the influx of tourists and pilgrims during festival seasons.
Following the briefing, Ashish Kundra assured the community that the administration is dedicated to balancing modern development with the preservation of Ladakh’s unique spiritual heritage.
He noted that the requested projects would undergo technical feasibility reviews and be prioritized according to government norms and resource availability.
The Chief Secretary was supported by a high-level delegation, including Education Secretary Bhanu Prabha, PHE Secretary Rahul Sharma, and the Chief Engineers of the Public Works Department and Health & Medical Education, ensuring that all infrastructure and utility concerns were noted by the respective department heads for immediate evaluation.
