SRINAGAR | January 07, 2026 :- High-altitude passes in Jammu and Kashmir continue to face winter disruptions, with the Mughal Road and the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244) road remaining strictly closed for all vehicular movement due to fresh snow accumulation.
While these major links remain cut off, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road is scheduled for limited operations on January 08, 2026. Pending a “green signal” from the Border Roads Organization (BRO), one-way traffic will be allowed from Srinagar toward Kargil.Under this plan, LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 6 tyres) will be permitted to move from Sonamarg toward Kargil between the 11:00 AM and 03:00 PM cutoff window.
Due to the high risk of slippery surfaces, the Traffic Police have made anti-skid chains mandatory for all motorists to ensure better traction. Commuters are advised to verify the latest road status through the dedicated Traffic Control Units (TCU) in Srinagar, Kargil, or Ramban before starting their journey to avoid being stranded in freezing temperatures.
