Indian Army Restores Critical Sri Lanka Road Links After Cyclone Ditwah Destruction

NEW DELHI /COLOMBO, January 7, 2026 — The Indian Army’s Engineer Task Force has successfully restored vital road connectivity on the B-492 highway, a crucial artery linking Kandy in the Central Province to Badulla in the Uva Province of Sri Lanka, following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

Working relentlessly to repair the infrastructure severely damaged by the storm, the Task Force achieved a major breakthrough by swiftly constructing two Bailey bridges at the 15-kilometer and 21-kilometer marks.

This strategic intervention has not only reconnected isolated communities and drastically reduced travel times for locals but also serves as a testament to the enduring humanitarian partnership between India and Sri Lanka.

By restoring this essential transport route, the Indian Army has played a pivotal role in post-cyclone recovery efforts, strengthening the deep-rooted bonds of cooperation and friendship with the Sri Lankan people during this challenging period of reconstruction.
