LEH, JANUARY 02, 2026 — Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, chaired a high-level review meeting today to evaluate the progress and future roadmap of the School Education, Higher Education, Technical Education, and Skill Development Departments.
During the session, Secretary of School Education Bhanu Prabha presented a comprehensive status report on the region’s evolving educational ecosystem, noting a significant rise in academic performance following the transition from JKBOSE to CBSE. The meeting highlighted the successful implementation of national schemes such as Samagra Shiksha, PM SHRI, and PM POSHAN, while also addressing the current enrollment figures and the status of residential hostels across the UT.
In the higher education and technical sectors, the discussion centered on the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) and strategic MoUs with IITs and the Sindhu Central University to enhance competitive learning. A major highlight was the success of the “Enterprising Ladakh” initiative; through a partnership with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), the UT has already nurtured nearly 150 startups.
Ashish Kundra emphasized the need to develop end-to-end entrepreneurship models, specifically directing that the pashmina trade be managed in a “mission-mode” approach to maximize local economic benefits. He further instructed officials to organize a large-scale startup conclave and ensure all local ventures are registered with Startup India.
Looking toward the future, Ashish Kundra called for the integration of advanced technology into the curriculum, including specialized training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and high-altitude skill development to boost employability. To ensure ground-level accountability, he issued a mandatory directive for Tehsildars and SDMs to inspect remote schools, with these evaluations becoming a formal part of their Annual Confidential Reports.
By suggesting district-wise teachers’ conferences and rigorous documentation of all developmental initiatives, the Chief Secretary underscored a commitment to transparency and institutional excellence in Ladakh’s educational Sector.
