State Tax Department Enforcement Udhampur recovers 18.22 lakh penalty in weekly crackdown
UDHAMPUR, MAY 4: The Enforcement Wing of the State Tax Department Udhampur has intensified its operations against tax evasion, realizing a total penalty of 18.22 lakh within a single week. The latest success came during an operation on the night of April 30 and May 1, where officials recovered 11.93 lakh from two tax defaulters.
This followed an earlier recovery of 6.29 lakh, alongside several smaller penalties, highlighting a period of rigorous enforcement and heightened vigilance across the district.
The successful interceptions were carried out by teams mobilized under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Anil Kumar Chandail and led by State Tax Officers Ayush Sharma and Kamal Gupta.
One of the teams, headed by Inspector Amir Hussain, tracked and stopped two vehicles found transporting scrap goods without the mandatory documentation. Penalties were imposed and recovered on the spot in accordance with GST provisions.
The operation was lauded as a result of coordinated field action and the effective use of investigative tools to ensure compliance with tax laws.
Commissioner PK Bhat expressed his appreciation for the dedication and professionalism shown by the Udhampur enforcement team.
He noted that the exceptional performance in revenue realization and the strict verification of E-Way Bills have set new benchmarks for efficiency within the department.
While urging the team to maintain this level of alertness to protect government revenue, the department also issued an appeal to all taxpayers to strictly adhere to GST norms to support fair trade practices and avoid heavy penalties.
