SRINAGAR: May 14, 2026: As part of the ongoing public outreach initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Government, Srinagar Police organized a series of Lok Darbar-cum-awareness programs on new criminal laws across the district.

Conducted during the first phase of May 2026, these Thana Diwas events took place across 11 police stations, including Maisuma, Nowgam, Safakadal, Batamaloo, Soura, Kothibagh, Parimpora, M.R. Gunj, Shergarhi, Zadibal, and Kralkhud.

The sessions were led by supervisory and jurisdictional officers and saw significant participation from civil society members, including religious leaders, traders, transporters, and local elders.

During the interactions, participants highlighted several critical public issues such as illegal narcotics trafficking, traffic management, and challenges related to the floating population.

Concerns regarding civil administration, including road maintenance, healthcare, and electricity, were also recorded for referral to the appropriate departments. The police emphasized the importance of these meetings as a platform for transparent engagement, ensuring that the grievances of every citizen are heard and addressed in a timely manner.

A major focus of the program was the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan. Participants were briefed on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the legal consequences associated with it under the new criminal laws.

Police encouraged the community to share information regarding drug peddling, promising strict confidentiality and prompt action. The initiative concluded with a call for collective community action to eradicate the drug menace and maintain peace, with citizens assuring their full cooperation in building a safer and drug-free Srinagar.
