Security forces recover drugs and contraband worth 23 crore in Northeast operations
GUWAHATI, May 5, 2026 — Security forces have successfully concluded a month-long series of intelligence-based joint operations across Northeast India, resulting in the seizure of narcotics and contraband valued at approximately 23.05 crore.
The operations, which took place from April 1 to April 30, 2026, were carried out by Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under the Spear Corps in close coordination with local police departments.
These strategic interventions targeted smuggling networks across several districts, including Ukhrul, Chandel, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, and Kakching, spanning the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.
The coordinated crackdown led to the recovery of a significant haul of illegal items, including roughly 10.74 kg of heroin and 10,000 WY/Yaba tablets. Additionally, security personnel confiscated 127 kg of various contraband substances, six cases of foreign cigarettes, and 733 cases of foreign liquor.
This massive recovery highlights the ongoing efforts of the Spear Corps and regional law enforcement to dismantle illicit trade routes and curb the flow of narcotics in the border regions.
Officials emphasized that these joint operations remain a critical component of maintaining security and public order across the northeastern states.
