Omar Abdullah to Prioritize Statehood and Advocate General Appointment in Talks with Home Minister
SRINAGAR, May 11, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Monday his intention to meet with the Union Home Minister to discuss the Transaction of Business Rules and the ongoing reservation issues within the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, the Chief Minister detailed his agenda for the meeting with Amit Shah, which includes the appointment of the Advocate General and specific concerns regarding reservation policies that have been forwarded to New Delhi by the Lieutenant Governor. Abdullah acknowledged the complexity of restoring statehood, noting that while it remains a primary and consistent demand in his dialogues with the central government, it is a continuous process rather than a goal achievable in a single sitting. He emphasized that addressing these administrative and legal frameworks is a priority, stating it is best to discuss these significant matters directly with the Home Minister to seek a resolution.
