MHA Announces Major IAS Reshuffle: Seven AGMUT Officers Transferred Out of Delhi
NEW DELHI, APRIL 14, 2026 — In a major administrative shake-up aimed at strengthening governance across Union Territories, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has ordered the immediate transfer of seven Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from the AGMUT cadre. The directive, issued from Kartavya Bhavan, marks a significant shift for the National Capital’s bureaucracy, as all seven officials were previously stationed in Delhi. Under the new assignments, Jammu & Kashmir and Puducherry will receive the bulk of the redirected talent; Vivek Agarwal, Asha Choudhary Malhotra, and Vikas Ahlawat have been posted to Jammu & Kashmir, while Rajeeva Shukla and Anoop Thakur are set to take up new roles in Puducherry.
The reshuffle also extends to other regions, with Saumyaketu Mishra transferred to Mizoram and D. Karthikeyan moving to Chandigarh. Signed by Under Secretary Rakesh Kumar Singh, the MHA order emphasizes that these postings are effective “with immediate effect” to ensure a strategic realignment of experienced personnel. To maintain administrative continuity during this transition, the government has mandated that all seven officers be officially relieved from their current duties in Delhi within 15 days. This move, circulated to Chief Secretaries across various jurisdictions including Ladakh and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, is viewed as a proactive step to bolster efficiency and governance throughout the states and territories under the AGMUT cadre’s purview.
