Digital Crackdown on NH-44: Highway Safety Sweep Penalizes Multi-Offense Drivers in Ramban

RAMBAN, June 17, 2026 — In a major push to eliminate traffic hazards and enforce strict road compliance, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) launched an extensive enforcement drive along key stretches of National Highway-44 (NH-44), including Maroog, Karol, Chanderkote, and Dhalwas. Executed under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan and in close coordination with the District Police led by SSP Arun Gupta, the operation targeted dangerous driving practices and non-compliant commercial transport. Driven by directives from the Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir and supervised directly by ARTO Varun Bhasin, the safety sweep inspected more than 60 vehicles to ensure adherence to the Motor Vehicles Act and regional safety protocols.

The aggressive highway inspection resulted in immediate electronic penalties, with 13 vehicles slapped with e-challans for severe offenses that carry an expected fine total of ₹1.36 lakh. The violations ranged from operating without valid route permits to driving mechanically compromised vehicles that pose a direct threat to public safety. Demonstrating zero tolerance for high-risk violators, enforcement officers seized two defective vehicles on the spot and formally recommended the suspension of two driving licenses due to major compliance breaches. Additionally, teams operating on the Karol–Kumate Road cracked down on noise pollution by confiscating illegal pressure horns from three separate vehicles. Following the operation, ARTO Varun Bhasin issued a strict advisory urging all vehicle owners and commuters to maintain roadworthy vehicles and carry authentic documentation, warning that joint MVD and police crackdowns will continue indefinitely across the district.
