MC Shopian Conducts Major Cleanliness Drive at Sanglo Nallah Under “Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao” Campaign

SHOPIAN, JULY 29 — In a major effort to bolster urban sanitation and safeguard public health, the Municipal Council (MC) Shopian launched a comprehensive cleanliness drive at Sanglo Nallah under the nationwide “Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao” initiative. Spearheaded as part of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0, the monsoon-season drive focused on protecting local water resources and preventing water-borne diseases across the district.

A collaborative team of Municipal Council officials, Swachhata Executives, Community Mobilizers, sanitation workers, and local volunteers cleared substantial amounts of solid waste, plastic debris, and silt from the water body and its banks, successfully restoring the natural flow of Sanglo Nallah. Alongside the physical cleanup, officials organized awareness sessions to educate shopkeepers and residents on the dangers of dumping waste into streams, emphasizing source segregation and responsible waste management to build a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Shopian.
