Jammu Municipal Corporation Drives Scientific Dairy Waste Management to Boost Eco-Friendly Practices
JAMMU JULY 29— The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has intensified its drive to promote scientific dairy waste management across the city by organizing a targeted awareness campaign for local dairies and gaushalas. Conducted by the Veterinary Section under the supervision of Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS) Dr. Divya Sharma, the initiative covered key areas including Janipur, Paloura, Roop Nagar, Muthi, Barnai, and Patoli. Departmental officials sensitized dairy owners on environmentally responsible management and encouraged the adoption of sustainable mechanisms—such as biogas plants, vermicompost units, and compost pits—to convert cattle dung into clean energy and organic manure while curbing urban pollution.
Aligning with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines, National Green Tribunal (NGT) directions, and FSSAI norms, the JMC has already registered 100 dairy units that have complied with statutory environmental standards. Dr. Sharma emphasized that the registration and regulation of remaining dairies and gaushalas are proceeding in a phased manner. By driving compliance through these ongoing awareness programs, the JMC aims to enforce strict adherence to environmental bylaws, improve city sanitation, and foster a sustainable circular economy through efficient waste recycling.
