Omar Abdullah joins Ashura mourners at Zadibal in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, JUNE 26, 2026 :- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah joined mourners at Zadibal on Friday to mark the solemn occasion of Youm-e-Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram.

Showing solidarity with the participants, Omar Abdullah distributed water and milk at a traditional sabeel set up along the main procession route. He was accompanied during the visit by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq.

While interacting with the mourners and volunteers handling the event arrangements, Omar Abdullah praised the deep spirit of service and devotion shown by everyone involved. Zadibal remains one of the primary centers for Muharram observances in Srinagar, drawing large crowds for the traditional Ashura procession, which proceeded smoothly under careful administrative arrangements.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also went to the revered Shrine of Mir Shamsu-din Araqi to offer Fatihah and pray for peace, harmony, and the general well-being of the people across Jammu and Kashmir. Youm-e-Ashura commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain, his family, and his companions at Karbala, and is traditionally observed through mourning processions, religious congregations, and the setup of refreshment stalls.
