Indian Army dispatches medical team to earthquake hit Venezuela under Operation Amistad
NEW DELHI, June 26, 2026 — Responding to the devastating earthquake that struck northern Venezuela, the Indian Army has dispatched a specialized medical contingent to assist in humanitarian relief efforts. The medical team from 60 Para Field Hospital departed this afternoon from Hindon Air Force Station and is currently en route to the affected region aboard two Indian Air Force aircraft.
The mission reflects India’s enduring commitment to providing swift humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to friendly nations during times of crisis.The deployed contingent comprises 41 personnel, including nine medical officers, who are fully equipped to provide emergency medical care, trauma management, life-saving surgical support, and essential healthcare services.
Along with the personnel, the aircraft are carrying approximately six tonnes of medical stores and humanitarian relief supplies provided by the Ministry of External Affairs to support the local population.In addition to standard medical supplies, one of the aircraft is transporting a BHISHM Cube under India’s Aarogya Maitri Project. This state-of-the-art, indigenous, rapidly deployable modular medical facility is specifically designed for disaster response.
The self-contained modules can be quickly assembled into a fully functional field hospital capable of treating up to 200 patients, offering advanced trauma care, emergency surgeries, intensive care, portable ventilators, diagnostic equipment, and independent power and oxygen systems to significantly enhance relief operations.
