Kathua Campaign Targets Drug Abuse with Awareness Rally

KATHUA, May 05 — Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma initiated a significant district-wide campaign against substance abuse today by flagging off a large-scale awareness rally from the Zila Sainik Welfare Office.

The event was held under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, drawing a diverse crowd of government officials, ex-servicemen, students, and civil society members. Participants marched through the town carrying banners and placards to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle and to voice a united community stance against narcotics.

This rally forms a core part of a 100-day initiative designed to educate the public, particularly youth, on the physical and social dangers associated with drug use.

During the event, Rajesh Sharma noted that administrative efforts must be paired with active community cooperation to be truly effective. He urged the younger generation to focus their energy on education, sports, and community development rather than falling into the trap of addiction.

The gathering also highlighted the critical role of family support and social vigilance in maintaining a safe environment. Rajesh Sharma commended the involvement of ex-servicemen and local citizens, stating that their participation strengthens the administration’s goals.

The event concluded with a collective pledge from all attendees to work toward a drug-free region. Key officials in attendance included Vishavjeet Singh, Varun Choudhary, Rajinder Kr. Digra, and Jagmeet Singh.
