J&K Transport Commissioner warns against unlicensed Rapido operations in Union Territory

JAMMU, May 10, 2026:-Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Vishesh Mahajan, has issued a formal clarification regarding the operation of the bike-hailing service Rapido within the Union Territory.

Following a series of public complaints, the Commissioner confirmed that the service does not possess a valid license to operate anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasized that the current activities of the platform are unauthorized and do not comply with the regulatory framework established by the regional transport authorities.

The Commissioner further cautioned the general public and potential partners against participating in or utilizing the unlicensed service. He stated that anyone engaging with the platform does so at their own personal risk, as the lack of official licensing means the service is not subject to the mandatory safety and operational standards required for public transport.

This warning serves to protect citizens from potential legal and safety complications arising from the use of unregulated transport services.

In response to the continued unauthorized presence of the service, the Transport Department has initiated a crackdown on its operations.

Transport Commissioner Mahajan has issued strict directions to his officers to take immediate and necessary action against those participating in this illegal service.

The administration remains committed to ensuring that all transport operators within the UT adhere to licensing requirements to maintain public safety and uphold the rule of law in the transportation sector.
