Jitendra Singh inaugurates 200 MW solar module manufacturing line at Central Electronics Limited
SAHIBABAD, May 14, 2026 — Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated a new 200 MW Solar Module Manufacturing Line at Central Electronics Limited, marking a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy journey.
Developed through a successful public-private sector collaboration, the facility is expected to bolster the national clean energy ecosystem. Singh noted that the expansion aligns with the goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070, as the country rapidly scales up its capabilities in solar, wind, nuclear, and ocean-based energy systems.
During the event, the Minister highlighted the historic role of CEL, which manufactured India’s first solar cell in 1977 and established the nation’s first solar plant in 1979. He observed that while the institution’s pioneering contributions were overlooked for years, it is now gaining renewed national visibility. The operationalization of this new line reflects a growing confidence in indigenous manufacturing and the expansion of non-fossil energy domains across the country.
Singh further commended the transformation of the organization from an entity previously considered for disinvestment into a profit-making Mini Ratna enterprise. He described the revival of the institution as a remarkable example of institutional recovery and revenue generation.
The new manufacturing unit at the Sahibabad facility is anticipated to play a crucial role in meeting the rising demand for domestic solar components while supporting India’s broader climate action objectives.
