Jammu Municipal Corporation launches massive green campaign with plantation drive at Shanti Park
JAMMU, July 16, 2026:- The Jammu Municipal Corporation expanded its ongoing Clean Jammu, Green Jammu initiative by organizing a mega plantation drive at Shanti Park in Ward Number 61, Patta Paloura, under the National Clean Air Programme.
The environment-focused drive was officially inaugurated by Municipal Corporation Commissioner Devansh Yadav. Organized in close collaboration with the Urban Forestry Division, the event is part of a larger city-wide green campaign led by the Commissioner with a target of planting over 50,000 saplings across Jammu to strengthen the green cover, boost biodiversity, improve air quality, and build a sustainable urban environment.
During the event, around 2,100 saplings were planted at Shanti Park, effectively creating a brand-new green space for the public. The drive is a key component of the civic body’s efforts to establish environmentally resilient public spaces while actively combating climate change and urban pollution.
Emphasizing the value of urban forestry in boosting environmental health and local quality of life, Devansh Yadav urged residents, youth groups, social organizations, and educational institutions to actively participate in the ongoing campaign and take direct responsibility for the survival of the newly planted saplings.
The high-profile environmental event saw the participation of several prominent administrative officials and local figures. Among those present were Joint Commissioner for Health and Sanitation Abdul Sattar, Deputy Commissioner North Sanjay Badyal, Divisional Forest Officer Ashwani Sharma, Assistant Floriculture Officer Rabia Khan, and Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Priyanka Malhotra.
Former Councillor Mohinder Kumar also joined the event alongside senior citizens, volunteers, local residents, and dedicated officials from both the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the Urban Forestry Division.
