CBI Arrests J&K PWD Assistant Engineer Red-Handed in Rs 30,000 Bribery Case
JAMMU & KASHMIR — July 17, 2026 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Engineer working with the Public Works Department (PWD) of Jammu & Kashmir in connection with a bribery case. The accused engineer, who was posted to oversee the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in the union territory, was apprehended following a targeted trap operation.
The case was registered by the CBI on July 16, 2026, following a formal complaint against the official. According to the allegations, the complainant’s house had sustained damage during the execution of a PMGSY road construction project linking Thathri to Kathawa in the Doda district. While the complainant was entitled to a compensation amount of approximately Rs. 10 Lakh, the accused Assistant Engineer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to process and release the funds.
Following negotiations, the engineer agreed to accept a reduced bribe amount of Rs. 30,000. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on July 16, 2026, and caught the official red-handed while demanding and accepting the negotiated bribe of Rs. 30,000. The federal agency has stated that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
