Indian Coast Guard inducts fifth fast patrol vessel Akshay to boost maritime security

NEW DELHI, May 29, 2026 – In a significant boost to the maritime security and indigenous defense capabilities of India, the Indian Coast Guard inducted its fifth Fast Patrol Vessel, Akshay, on May 28, 2026, at Goa Shipyard Limited. Designed and built entirely within the country, the vessel is set to strengthen coastal surveillance and offshore security along the western seaboard.

Equipped with advanced systems for rapid response, law enforcement, search and rescue, and Exclusive Economic Zone protection, Akshay reflects the national vision of self-reliance and the Make in India initiative.

The induction highlights the continuous efforts of the Indian Coast Guard to modernize and expand its fleet for enhanced maritime preparedness and national security.
