Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary Inspects Sungal Tunnel Project at Kalidhar
NOWSHERA, May 28, 2026 — Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary inspected the ongoing construction works of the Sungal Tunnel project at Kalidhar today to review the pace and quality of execution on the ground. During the site visit, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed serious concern over poor quality standards, a slow pace of work, and alleged violations of prescribed Standard Operating Procedures.
The Deputy Chief Minister expressed dismay over the project missing its original 2025 completion deadline. He directed the executing agencies and concerned officials to ensure strict adherence to quality norms and safety protocols moving forward. He emphasized the absolute necessity of following all safety measures thoroughly to prevent tragic incidents, referencing a recent accident at the site in which a laborer lost his life. He called for a rapid and high-quality execution of all remaining works to complete the project within the shortest possible timeframe.
Furthermore, the Deputy Chief Minister maintained that alternative roads must be properly upgraded and maintained to ensure seamless traffic movement and public convenience until the tunnel project is fully completed. He highlighted the immense importance of the tunnel, noting that the project remains crucial for improving road connectivity and mobility across Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu.
He added that the infrastructure will drive the overall development of the region and provide significantly better transportation facilities for the public.During his tour of the area, the Deputy Chief Minister also assessed the ongoing construction work on the road connecting Master Vaid Prakash Academy to Langer in Nowshera, while simultaneously reviewing several other regional development projects.
