Indian Army joins local communities for Yak Mela 2026 at Chuna High Ground in Arunachal Pradesh
DIRANG, May 29, 2026 – The Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Yak National Research Centre in Dirang and the local communities of Mago-Thimbu, participated in Yak Mela 2026.
The unique event was celebrated at the serene Chuna High Ground, located at a challenging altitude of 14,000 feet. The festival honored the enduring bond between the local Himalayan communities and the yak, while successfully showcasing traditional yak rearing practices alongside the rich cultural heritage of the frontier region.
During the festival, the Gajraj Corps also organized a comprehensive medical camp that was attended by more than 100 civilians from the remote villages of Mago and Hydel. The medical team provided essential health check-ups and expert consultations to the residents. This welfare initiative further strengthened mutual trust, cooperation, and community resilience among the vital population living along the border areas.
