Kathua Police Dismisses Constable Involved in Narcotics Smuggling

KATHUA, August 4, 2026 — Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Mohita Sharma has dismissed a selection grade constable from service following his arrest in a narcotics smuggling case. The dismissed official, identified as Aftab Ahmed, was found possessing contraband heroin during a routine checkpoint check.

The action comes after a departmental inquiry was initiated following an FIR registered at Police Station Billawar under the NDPS Act. Ahmed was initially placed under suspension with immediate effect after being apprehended by the local police team.

The Superintendent of Police Operations for Upper Kathua conducted the departmental inquiry and confirmed that the charges against the constable were proven, recommending his termination.

Acting under the established provisions of the police rules, the senior superintendent ordered the immediate dismissal to uphold strict institutional discipline and enforce a zero-tolerance policy against drug offenses within the force.
