Court extends NIA remand of separatist leader Shabir Shah in Jammu

JAMMU, APRIL 27: A special NIA court on Monday extended the remand of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah by ten additional days in connection with a terror case dating back three decades. Shah was produced before the court following the expiry of his previous ten-day remand period.

While the National Investigation Agency sought further custody for continued questioning, Shah has also moved a bail application which is expected to be considered during the next scheduled hearing.The case involves a 1996 incident related to a terrorist attack on police personnel during a militant’s funeral. Shah was arrested by the Srinagar branch of the National Investigation Agency on April 17 in Delhi.

Following his arrest, a transit remand was granted by the Patiala House Court, after which he was presented before the special court in Jammu.This legal development follows Shah’s recent release on bail after spending nearly seven years in prison for other cases.

The court, after considering the submissions made by the agency regarding the necessity of further interrogation, granted the extension of custody. Officials noted that the investigation aims to uncover further details regarding the decades-old case as proceedings continue in the special court.
