CISF Intercepts $31,500 Foreign Currency Smuggling Attempt at Amritsar Airport
AMRITSAR, India — August 04, 2026 — Security officials at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport successfully foiled a foreign currency smuggling attempt when Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel intercepted a passenger attempting to traffic $31,500 USD (approximately ₹30 lakh).
The illicit funds were detected hidden inside the passenger’s undergarments during routine pre-embarkation security screening. After the passenger failed to produce valid legal authorization or documentation for carrying the cash, CISF officers detained the suspect and handed both the individual and the seized currency over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for detailed investigation and legal proceedings.
The swift interception highlights the CISF’s ongoing commitment to robust aviation security, vigilant surveillance, and proactive inter-agency coordination to curb illegal smuggling operations across Indian airports.
