Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps Hosts Medical Outreach Camp in Inaccessible Assam River Island
SONITPUR, ASSAM — August 04, 2026 — In a major initiative to bring essential healthcare services to remote populations, the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps joined forces with the Sonitpur District Boat Clinic, National Health Mission (NHM) Sonitpur, and Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (C-NES) to organize a medical outreach camp at Binde Tapu. Located in the Sonitpur district, Binde Tapu is an isolated riverine island on the Brahmaputra River that becomes particularly difficult to reach during the monsoon season due to heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
Despite the challenging weather conditions and terrain, the joint outreach effort successfully reached nearly 300 residents of the island. The medical team provided specialist consultations, basic health diagnostics, free medicines, and awareness sessions on personal hygiene and sanitation. By delivering vital health services directly to one of the region’s most underserved communities, the initiative highlighted the strong collaboration between the Indian Army and civil health administrations in bridging crucial healthcare gaps and building resilient community bonds.
