“Operation Sanjeewani :-  Jammu Police Cracked a Major Illicit Drug Network Over 4.95 Kg Heroin and three Pistol and 06 Live Rounds Recovered, Multiple Accused Arrested

Jammu 04 December :-  Under the command and overall supervision of SSP Jammu, Police Station Gandhi Nagar has achieved a major breakthrough in Operation Sanjeevani, successfully dismantling a large inter-district, inter-state and cross-border linked illicit Narco Terror syndicate operating in the Jammu region. On 14.11.2025, at about 0520 hours, police patrolling team of PS Gandhi Nagar was conducting routine patrolling in the jurisdiction. At around 0505 hrs, near Shastri Nagar Shamshan Ghat, the patrol team noticed two pedestrians carrying bags and moving suspiciously from the National Highway side. Upon noticing the police party, both individuals attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.

They disclosed their identities as Karan Sharma S/o Gopal Sharma R/o Jourian, Akhnoor, Jammu and Niklesh Verma S/o Maan Singh R/o Dhar Road, Udhampur. A search of their bags, carried out legally led to the recovery of 3 kg 260 grams of heroin-like substance.

Both accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the narcotics. Accordingly, FIR No. 249/2025 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act & 111 BNS was registered at PS Gandhi Nagar. Investigation was entrusted to SHO Gandhi Nagar.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SHO Gandhi Nagar was constituted under the supervision of SDPO South to investigate the case thoroughly.

During sustained investigation, on 19.11.2025, based on the confession of accused Karan Sharma before the Executive Magistrate, the investigating team recovered 278 grams more of heroin-like substance concealed at his scrap shop in Preet Nagar, Jammu. During the course of investigation in forwarding links in this illicit drug module led to arrestation of;

        Arrest of Mohd Yousaf @ Shamma Fakhar Din R/o Narwal Bala Kiryana Talab, Jammu.Based on the disclosure of accused Karan Sharma and technical evidences, Mohd Yousaf @ Shamma was arrested and, on his disclosure, 53.22 grams of heroin- like substance was recovered from his possession. He was found to be a forwarding link in the drug module and was also the main drug peddler.

Arrest of Gulshan Kumar (Financial Handler) Karan Sharma revealed that Gulshan Kumar S/o Kehar Chand R/o Lamberi, Rajouri was managing the financial channels of the syndicate. Upon Gulshan Kumar’s arrest, and during the search of his vehicle JK02AX-9413, 259.32 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. The vehicle was modified specially for transporting/smuggling of Narcotics and was also seized in the case

Another accused Jaswinder Kumar @ Sonu S/o Karam Chand R/o Lamberi, Nowshera surfaced during investigation who used to operate from inside Jail as he is already lodged at District Jail Rajouri in 10 Kg Illicit heroin case and was in contact with Karan Sharma through virtual whatsapp and act as a mediator between instate and cross border narcotics suppliers. Subsequently he was arrested in the case. During the further course of investigation led arrestation of; 4. Arrest of Shamp Din @ Pappy S/o Makhan Din R/o Beaspur Prlah, tehsil Suchetgarh Distt Jammu A/P Nikki Tawi, Belicharana and originally from kathua and the accused was absconding since long in very Popular Akshay Murder case in case Fir No. 93/2023 of Ps Ramghar.

With the support of technical evidence and disclosures made by arrested accused persons, Shamp Din @ Pappy was arrested. On his disclosure, the following recoveries were made:619.83 grams heroin-like substance ,One pistol ,Three live rounds.

During the course of investigation, Shamp Din @ Pappy disclosed that he is close associate of Abdul Hameed @ Meedu S/o Mohd. Musa R/o Dak Bunglow Maralian, RS Pura. On this, a raid was conducted at Meedu’s residence at Maralian to arrest him. However, he fled from his house and during search of his house, following recoveries were made One Glock pistol ,Three live rounds of Glock, One Country made pistol

Preliminary investigation supported by technical analysis has revealed that all accused were interconnected and operating as part of an organized drug trafficking module. The investigation has also indicated international links, including connections with drug networks across Pakistan the arrestee disclose that they are in close touch with the Pakistan based person namely Gill and shah who are the source of this drug and arms network from where the narcotics are believed to have been sourced.

Total Recovery So Far The cumulative recovery in the case stands at:

1 kg 630 g-from Karan Sharma, 1 kg 630 g-from Niklesh Verma ,278 g-from Karan’s scrap shop, 53.22 g-from Mohd Yousaf @ Shamma, 259.32 g from Gulshan Kumar

619.83 g + 1 Pistol + 3 Live Rounds – from Shamp Din @ Pappy, 2 Pistol + 3 Live Rounds – from the house of Meedu

Total heroin-like substance recovered: Over 4.95 kilograms, along with one pistol and ammunition.

Further investigation is underway to Identify remaining members of the drug network, Trace the financial trails, Establish cross-border supply routes and make additional arrests as required. Jammu Police remain committed to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the citizens of Jammu.
