World Horse Day Army Goodwill School awareness programme on Zanskari Pony in Ladakh
PRATAP PUR, JULY 10: The Siachen Chakors hosted an awareness programme for students of the Army Goodwill School on the occasion of World Horse Day. The educational event focused heavily on India’s indigenous horse breeds, with a special emphasis on the endangered Zanskari Pony.
The initiative aimed to educate the younger generation about the rich heritage of these animals and the critical need for their preservation in the Himalayan region.During the session, students learned about the vital role the Zanskari Pony plays in sustaining logistics across the challenging and treacherous terrain of the Siachen Glacier. The Indian Army highlighted its ongoing conservation and revival efforts dedicated to protecting this resilient breed. By fostering awareness among young minds, the programme sought to honor one of the military’s most dependable companions in the high mountains while safeguarding a unique regional legacy.
