Srinagar Police dispose of seized narcotics in comprehensive drug disposal drive

SRINAGAR, July 9, 2026:- In its sustained and relentless crackdown against the menace of drug trafficking and the infrastructure supporting the illegal narcotics trade, Srinagar Police participated in a comprehensive drug disposal drive under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The drug disposal exercise was conducted at IGC Lassipora, where seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances connected with NDPS cases registered across Srinagar district were destroyed using scientific and legal procedures. The entire process was carried out by the Drug Disposal Committee in strict compliance with prescribed legal regulations, ensuring complete transparency, accountability, and environmental safety.

During the drug disposal drive, a substantial quantity of contraband was destroyed, including 113.646 kg of ganja, 2.133 kg of charas, 1.650 kg of poppy straw, and 881.52 grams of heroin. Additionally, authorities destroyed 28 bottles of Codeine Phosphate alongside one larger 1940 ml bottle, as well as 12,859 psychotropic tablets and a substantial quantity of psychotropic capsules.

The destruction was carried out in the presence of senior police officers and members of the Drug Disposal Committee, including the SP Headquarters Srinagar, DySP DAR, DySP CID, and the Public Prosecutor of the NDPS Court Srinagar. Representatives from the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Executive Magistrate, Legal Metrology Department, and the J&K Pollution Control Board were also present to oversee the process.

This initiative reflects the unwavering resolve of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to eliminate the menace of drug abuse, dismantle narcotics trafficking networks, and ensure that seized contraband is disposed of in a lawful and time-bound manner. Such measures prevent the recirculation of narcotic substances into society while reinforcing public confidence in the criminal justice system.

Srinagar Police remain steadfast in their mission to make the district drug-free and will continue to take stringent legal action against individuals and organized networks involved in drug peddling and trafficking as part of the broader Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
