Committee on Government Assurances examines action taken report on public works department assurances

SRINAGAR, July 9, 2026:- A meeting of the Committee on Government Assurances of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held today at the Assembly Secretariat under the Chairmanship of MLA Ali Mohammad Sagar. The meeting was attended by MLAs Ghulam Mohi Ud Din Mir, Chander Prakash, Iftkar Ahmad, Mehraj Malik, and Shabir Ahmad Kullay, alongside Financial Commissioner PWD Anil Kumar Singh, Secretary JKLA Manoj Kumar Pandit, Assistant Director JKLA Syed Ahmad Wani, and senior officers from the Public Works Department.

During the session, the Secretary JKLA briefed the department representatives on the mandate, powers, and functioning of the committee, highlighting that directions issued by the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, or Chairman involving government action are monitored as official assurances until full compliance is achieved.

During the meeting, committee members participated in deliberations and raised several issues regarding public demands for development and infrastructure infrastructure under the Public Works Department. The Financial Commissioner of the Public Works Department assured the committee that all concerns projected by the members would be examined carefully and addressed in a phased manner, subject to the availability of resources and administrative requirements.

Emphasizing the significance of the committee, the Chairman observed that the Committee on Government Assurances plays a vital role in strengthening legislative oversight by ensuring executive accountability. He stressed that promises made by Ministers on the Floor of the House must be fulfilled within a stipulated timeframe to uphold the dignity of the Legislature and reinforce public confidence, subsequently directing the Financial Commissioner to furnish constituency-wise and scheme-wise details of allocated funds ahead of the next meeting.
