Ganderbal Police Conduct Mock Drill with CAPF and SDRF to Enhance Security and Landslide Disaster Response for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026

GANDERBAL, Jammu & Kashmir — JULY 01, 2026 — In a proactive effort to ensure robust safety and security arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, the Ganderbal Police, in close coordination with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Health Department, and other key stakeholders, conducted a comprehensive mock exercise focused on landslide and rockfall management. The disaster simulation was carried out along the critical stretch from Barari Marg to the Waterfall near the Y-Junction Barari Marg. Designed to assess and refine the collective response mechanisms of all participating agencies, the drill involved a simulated landslide and stone shooting incident, which triggered a rapid assessment of the affected zone and a coordinated search and rescue operation to safely extract a mock victim trapped under heavy rocks and debris.

Following established safety protocols, rescue teams successfully evacuated the simulated victim to a secure area, where emergency medical personnel administered immediate first aid and oxygen support before transporting the individual via stretcher. This extensive multi-agency exercise primarily focused on optimizing inter-departmental communication, accelerating emergency response times, and maximizing overall operational readiness. By testing these capabilities under realistic conditions, the participating forces ensured strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), significantly strengthening their disaster management framework to protect pilgrims during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
