India and Malaysia Boost Indo-Pacific Security Cooperation at 12th Military Sub-Committee Meeting in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, JULY 01, 2026 — India and Malaysia reviewed the entire spectrum of their bilateral military cooperation during the 12th Sub Committee Meeting on Military Cooperation (SCMC) held in New Delhi today. Co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Defence, and Major General Amer Mahmud Bin Abdul Rahman, Assistant Chief of Staff for Defence Operations & Training of the Malaysian Armed Forces, the meeting highlighted the steady progress achieved in bilateral defence engagements. Discussions covered a wide array of areas, including military-to-military exchanges, bilateral exercises, joint training, staff talks, capacity building, and maritime cooperation, alongside expanding collaboration in emerging domains, defence industry, cyber security, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Both nations agreed to further strengthen ties between their defence forces by increasing professional interactions and stepping up participation in each other’s military courses and training institutions. Furthermore, the delegations appreciated their mutual engagement within the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework, reaffirming a joint commitment to work closely under the Experts’ Working Group on Counter-Terrorism. As a precursor to the upcoming higher-level India-Malaysia Defence Cooperation Meeting, the SCMC underscored defence cooperation as a central pillar of the India-Malaysia Enhanced Strategic Partnership. Both sides exchanged views on regional and global security developments, strongly reiterating their shared commitment to maintaining peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific in accordance with international law. As part of the visit, the Malaysian delegation also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial to pay homage to fallen heroes and called on Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
