Srinagar Development Authority outlines major housing and satellite township projects
SRINAGAR, June 16, 2026 :- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the 84th Board of Directors meeting of the Srinagar Development Authority at the Civil Secretariat to review urban development initiatives, housing projects, and allied infrastructure for the city.
The high-level meeting assessed the progress of previous administrative decisions and evaluated ongoing projects aimed at upgrading urban facilities. Key discussions focused on land management, institutional reforms, budget estimates, and the implementation of the Srinagar Master Plan alongside zonal development plans.
A major focus of the meeting was the proposed Satellite Township at Rakhi Gund Aksha in Bemina, along with other upcoming housing and commercial projects. The Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of creating well-planned, aesthetically pleasing, and livable urban spaces.
He directed that all new housing developments must integrate comprehensive civic and social infrastructure, including schools, parks, playgrounds, and shopping facilities, complemented by quality landscaping to enhance the city’s environment.
The board also highlighted the need for the planned development of the Batmaloo area and discussed strategies to make the Sangarmal Shopping Centre fully functional while developing adjacent vacant land parcels.To meet the growing demands of the city, the Chief Minister instructed the Srinagar Development Authority to prioritize large-scale housing projects and urgently improve parking facilities in congested business districts.
He called for transparent, efficient, and time-bound execution of all urban works while strictly adhering to planning norms. Additionally, the board examined measures to strengthen the institutional capacity of the authority, including the formulation of recruitment rules and employee welfare initiatives, to ensure a more responsive delivery of civic services.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, and Additional Chief Secretaries Anil Kumar Singh and Shailendra Kumar. Commissioner Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department Mandeep Kaur, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, and the Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation were also present, while Vice Chairman of the Srinagar Development Authority Shabir Hussain Bhat presented the formal agenda.
