Jammu Flood Management: Minister Javed Ahmed Rana Launches ₹2.47 Crore Protection Project at Fattu Kotli
JAMMU, JUNE 9 — In a major push to bolster the region’s climate resilience ahead of the upcoming monsoon, the Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today laid the foundation stone for a ₹2.47 crore flood protection and restoration project at Fattu Kotli, Garkhal, situated along the left bank of the Chenab River.
Accompanied by MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Bhagat, and senior department officials, the Minister emphasized that reinforcing flood management infrastructure is a top government priority designed to safeguard local lives, property, and agricultural land from recurring riverbank erosion. Minister Rana issued strict directives to executing agencies to expedite the work and adhere to rigorous quality standards, ensuring completion without any delays.
Following the launch, the Minister visited Bhagatpur village in the Marh Block of Jammu district to inspect a damaged section of the Tawi River embankment. After reviewing the site and demanding a detailed restoration plan from engineers, Rana stressed the critical need for a proactive approach to maintain and strengthen vulnerable river stretches prone to inundation. During the visit, he also interacted with local residents and public representatives, promising a time-bound resolution to their community concerns regarding water management and flood safety.
