Div Com Kashmir Inspects Critical Infrastructure, Assures Public Amid Rising Water Levels

Srinagar 03 September :- Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, conducted a vital inspection of an automatic water level recorder at the Bone & Joint Hospital in Barzulla on Wednesday, simultaneously reviewing the delivery of critical healthcare services to ensure patient care remains uninterrupted during the inclement weather.

Following his assessment, Garg briefed the media on the current flood preparedness situation. He reported that heavy rainfall since last night, particularly in south and central Kashmir, has led to a rise in water levels at the Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh gauges.

However, he provided reassurance by relaying the India Meteorological Department’s forecast, which indicates a decrease in rainfall by the afternoon with expected relief by evening.

Elaborating on the administration’s proactive measures, the Div Com stated that the Irrigation and Flood Control Department has pre-positioned resources and that contingencies are firmly in place, including the ongoing placement of sandbags at vulnerable locations like the Bone & Joint Hospital, a task slated for completion within hours.

He highlighted that district teams are working round-the-clock in low-lying areas of south Kashmir, with teams in Kulgam being active since yesterday, resulting in approximately 2,500 residents being moved to relief shelters and others shifted to relatives’ homes. Garg urged the public to remain cautious, adhere to official advisories, and strictly avoid water bodies for their own safety.
