Committee demands Additional District and Session Court at Chadoora in meeting with Speaker
SRINAGAR, May 16, 2026 :- A committee advocating for the establishment of an Additional District and Session Court at Chadoora, led by its chairperson AR Hanjoora, met with Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to submit their formal demand.
The delegation highlighted the severe hardships faced by local residents due to the absence of a higher-level court in the area. Chadoora, which comprises three large tehsils, currently faces a heavy backlog of litigations, forcing residents and legal professionals to travel nearly 60 kilometers to the District Court in Budgam for ordinary legal proceedings.
The committee informed the Speaker that Chadoora represents a massive population base that generates a significant volume of legal cases.
They argued that the sheer volume of pending litigations justifies a localized court to de-congest the main Budgam District Court and accelerate the judicial process.
Additionally, the delegation urged the Speaker to facilitate the release of funds for the construction of a new Munsiff and Sub-Judge court complex, a long-pending project for which the detailed project report is already prepared.
The Speaker listened to the issues presented by the committee and acknowledged the merits of their case. He assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities immediately to ensure an early redressal of the grievance.
The Speaker emphasized that establishing this court is not just an administrative convenience but a critical step toward ensuring justice at the doorsteps for the people of Chadoora.
The visiting delegation included Waseem Rasool Mir, GM Baba, Javaid Iqbal Dar, Nasir Dar, Iliyas Dangroo, Firdous Ahmed, and Javaid Iqbal.
