Customs officials seize marijuana worth crores at Delhi airport

NEW DELHI, May 16, 2026 :- Customs officers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport booked a drug smuggling case following the interception of two Indian passengers arriving from Bangkok and Abu Dhabi.

Acting on profiling, airport officials intercepted the travelers and discovered eighteen polythene packets containing a green-coloured narcotic substance suspected to be marijuana concealed inside a dark blue trolley bag during an X-ray screening at the Green Channel.

The recovered contraband weighed a total of 17,927 grams and carries an estimated market value of approximately ₹17.927 crore.Diagnostic testing prima facie confirmed that the seized substance was marijuana, establishing a violation of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The two passengers were subsequently arrested under Section 43(b) of the NDPS Act for offenses punishable under Sections 20, 23, and 29 of the same Act, and the narcotics were formally confiscated along with the packing material.

Customs authorities are conducting further investigations into the smuggling operation.
