Amritsar Customs seizes MDMA worth 50 crore at SGRDJI Airport

Amritsar: 11 May 2026 :- Customs officials at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport intercepted a passenger arriving from Cambodia via Kuala Lumpur on the night of May 6, 2026. Acting on Advanced Passenger Information System profiling, officers stopped the traveler who had arrived on Flight MH-118 for a detailed baggage examination.

During the inspection and subsequent X-ray scanning, officials discovered 25.25 kilograms of tablets suspected to be MDMA, a psychotropic substance, concealed inside four soft toys.A field test conducted on the recovered samples confirmed the presence of MDMA. The estimated value of the seizure is approximately 25.25 crore, though the market value is believed to be around 50 crore.

Following the discovery, the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The offending goods have been seized, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to uncover further details regarding the smuggling attempt.
